Running WAMP with .htaccess on windows 8.1

July 16th, 2014 by Edward

This was pretty involved.
Windows wouldn’t let me change htaccess.txt to .htaccess
Had to use a cmd line with rename C:\Documents\pathtohtaccess.txt .htaccess

Once that worked WAMP stopped working so…

So from the WAMP icon find apache->httpd.conf and search for line #LoadModule rewrite_module modules/

Take off the # and restart all services.

My guess is if I go and run a site that uses htaccess.txt then I’d need to comment that line back out

  1. Sometimes the htaccess.txt file could be missing – you can then download it from the server, and alter the line that says RewriteRule . /index.php [L] to something like RewriteRule . evictionaid/index.php [L]

I also note that if you have .htaccess on the remote and htacces.txt (or nothing) on the local then nonoe of the links will work – so you need to change the permalinks of pretty or sort out that .htaccess file so that it isn’t .txt and it has the correct re-write code.
